Wow, nice find. I didn't know gene lake had a vid on the vic firth site. Watching it now, good to see what he looks like, and ye, he does look very chilled behind the kit.

Thanx 4 d heads up on the great new neo-soul, & funk...

As for Gene Lake - seen him twice live, both times with Sanborn [& Don Alias on perc]....killin'.

The 1st time, in '02, also had Joe Sample's jazz trio [pno, bs, dr] opening for Sanborn...Sample had an amazing guy on kit who looked like he was in his early to mid 20's, but i didn't catch his name...anyone know?
The 2nd was at the Saratoga NY Freihofer's jazz fest, 6/03...Zawinul Syndicate/Weather Update was there, awa Wayne Shorter Quartet, Christian McBride's band, The Bad Plus, Karl Denson's Tiny Universe, Dave Drubeck's group, & many other great bands [have any of you ever heard Brubeck's son Dan on drums w the "Digital Dolphins?"]...oh yeah, there was also some band called the CCEB w some guy named Weckl, & CC3Q's w some guy named Vinnie...
...& now i'm startin' to ramble, so i'm out....

As far as Samples drummer, I could only find this, a 2002 CD he made, though it's not a trio. Drummer called Larry Aberman on it. Does that name ring any bells? By the way, I highly recommend this artistdirect website to everyone at HOD. Whenever I've wanted to find out a drummers' name off a CD, it's usually there, along with all the other muso's that played. Plus there's samples to hear, much like amazon.com.

I just got this disc. The entire thing is SLAMMIN'! I very highly recommend it to anyone who digs neo-soul, or just a very tasty groove throughout the entire album. So so good.
